The STATKey® is in an open-access file format, as we believe in the consumer's right to decide what information they would like to add to their STATKey®, and whether they would like password protection or not. If you are unconscious, password protection may complicate access to your essential information. However, we recognize that many would rather have all of their information on a STATKey® in a secure format. If that's the case, then we recommend that you access one of the providers of your choice which provides encryption for flash drives. There are many, some are free, and some are available for purchase. A company that we're familiar with, and has a good reputation is TruCrypt. Their software works for both PC and Mac, and is free! We're not going to recommend that you use any specific company, but here's their link, if you'd like to check them out:  TrueCrypt

And if you decide to add security, you might want to think about writing your password on your STATKey® Wallet Card, so your information is accessible in an emergency!

Additionally, some folks would like to add their information to a secure website, to allow others to securely access their information through the Internet. In order to keep costs down, and therefore prices to our customers down, we believe in using reliable, free sources that are already available (that's why we use all the free tools that we do!). Microsoft's HealthVault, and Google Health are two free universal platforms that are used by many and interface with a variety of companies and pharmacies. Since your STATKey® files are in a portable data file format (PDF), it's very easy to upload your files to these secure sites, if you'd like to provide access for loved ones and others. There are many other sites that you could upload your files to as well...it's all up to you. We're all about empowering our customers to be in charge of their healthcare!
